History

Jacob Jonas The Company has cultivated working relationships with leading organizations nationally and internationally. JJTC has been presented across North America bringing its mix of breakdance, acrobatics, and contemporary ballet techniques to venues including The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Hollywood Bowl, Lensic Performing Arts Center, The Music Center, Jacob’s Pillow, Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills as Company in Residence for 2018/2019 and Scottsdale Center for the Arts as Company in Residence for 2019/2020. 

To date, JJTC has created 40 original works across live performance and film. The base of our repertory is work created and choreographed by Jacob Jonas and JJTC has cultivated an extensive network of diverse collaborators who inform and contribute to our work including Sir Ken Robinson, Donald Byrd, Daniel Ezralow, Tessa Matthias, David Tytler, Nicole Miglis, Mallory Smith, Djeneba Aduayom, Tyson Wheatley, Okaidja Afroso, and others. The company has been commissioned by artists including Kanye West, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Vanessa Beecroft, Liam Young and brands including James Perse, Sony, and Nike.

JJTC initiated #CamerasandDancers – a monthly and location specific Instameet that brings social influencers, dance companies, architectural firms and cultural institutions together to collaborate and share content onto Instagram. To date, over 50 events have been held around the globe with leading institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, J. Paul Getty Center, de Young Museum, Swiss National Museum – dance companies including New York City Ballet, Paul Taylor Dance Company, The Royal Ballet, Bill T Jones/Arnie Zane Company, Royal Danish Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet and Joffrey Ballet- and architectural films including Zaha Hadid Architects, Renzo Piano Building Workshop, Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects, Rem Koolhaas’s OMA, and Herzog & de Meuron.

Annually, JJTC produces To the Sea: Dance Concerts on the Pier- a free dance festival in Santa Monica. To the Sea has presented and honored international artists including Pilobolus, The 7 Fingers, Toni Basil, Vincent Paterson, ILL-Abilities, DIAVOLO, Ryan Heffington, and Marco Goecke.
