Julie Whittaker

Julie Whittaker is the Founding Executive Director of Los Angeles Ballet.

Julie’s career has spanned the disciplines of dance and theater, and given her a rich diversity of experience that includes performing, teaching, directing, managing and writing. A native of Canada, Julie has traveled the globe both as a dancer and administrator, and now proudly makes her home in Southern California, where she is a passionate and dynamic advocate for the arts and for dance in particular.

At 17 Julie joined Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet, where for eight seasons she would perform in more than 400 cities in 22 countries around the world. Her roles included Louise (Sugar Plum Fairy) in John Neumeier’s The Nutcracker, the title role in Firebird, the lead in Balanchine’s Allegro Brillante, Kitri in Don Quixote, Queen of the Wilis in Giselle, and her favorite, the Cowgirl in Agnes de Mille’s Rodeo.

In 1988 Julie became Assistant Resident Director for the Toronto production of The Phantom of the Opera. Julie was also Assistant Director for the Canadian National Tour and International Tours of The Phantom of the Opera (Ottawa, Vancouver, Hong Kong and Honolulu), and for The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber (Toronto).
