Tonia Barber

Tonia Barber is a seasoned independent producer with a skill for curating, packaging and producing dance, film and live events. Barber is most recently known as the Executive/Artistic Director of Dance Camera West, a position she held for 7 years presenting award winning dance films and dance companies from around the globe in Los Angeles. While under the DCW banner, Barber curated and presented the West Coast premieres of Wim Wender’s Pina, Bess Kargman’s First Position, Tomer Heymann’s Mr. Gaga along side producing live events including dance companies Pilobolus, Jacob Jonas The Company and BODYTRAFFIC. The annual 4-day festival has remained at the top of the list for cultural events to attend in Los Angeles, highlighting top choreographers Wayne McGregor, Benjamin Millepied and Vincent Paterson and has been invited to present at the most prominent Los Angeles venues including the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art, The Music Center and Royce Hall.

Barber has produced, directed and premiered films at the Toronto Film Festival, Sundance and AFI. She is currently producing documentaries with Matthew Diamond and Bess Kargman.

Barber started her career as a dancer on scholarship with the Joffrey Ballet in New York City and continued to the Broadway stage at age 17. Her credits include “42nd Street” and original cast member of Tommy Tunes’ 9-time Tony winner “The Will Roger’s Follies.”

Barber partnered with Jacob Jonas The Company to co-produce “To the Sea: Dance Concerts on the Pier”. She is excited to join the JJTC team focusing on programming, touring, development and the continued growth and cultivation of JJTC’s community.
