Led by 27-year-old namesake, Jacob Jonas The Company is a Los Angeles born and bred dance company who creates original touring performances and produces work in photography and film. The company has performed for sold out audiences across North America bringing its mix of breakdance, acrobatics, and contemporary ballet techniques to venues including The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., Lincoln Center in New York City, Jacob’s Pillow, Lensic Performing Arts Center in Santa Fe, Maui Arts & Cultural Center, Ford Theaters presented by The Music Center and was the 2018/2019 Company-in-Residence at The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills.
Beyond live performance, the company is a leader in content creation, working with brands such as James Perse, Sony, and Nike and has initiated #CamerasandDancers – a monthly and location specific Instameet that brings social influencers, dance companies, architectural firms and cultural institutions together to collaborate and share content onto Instagram.
Events have been held around the globe with leading institutions including Metropolitan Museum of Art, The J. Paul Getty Center, de Young Museum – dance companies including New York City Ballet, Paul Taylor Dance Company, The Royal Ballet, Bill T Jones/Arnie Zane Company, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, Los Angeles Dance Project, and Joffrey Ballet- and architectural films including Renzo Piano Building Workshop, Saucier+Perrotte Architectes, Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects, Rem Koolhaas’s OMA, and Herzog & de Meuron.
Additionally, JJTC annually produces To the Sea: Dance Concerts on the Pier- a free Santa Monica dance festival. To the Sea has presented international artists including Pilobolus, The 7 Fingers, Vincent Paterson, ILL-Abilities, DIAVOLO, Ryan Heffington, Marco Goecke and more. The third annual festival held on April 26-28, 2019 was co-presented by The Wallis.
Jacob Jonas The Company was named one of “12 standout companies of 2018” by Los Angeles Times and honored with the Artist in the Community/Bruria Finkel Award by Santa Monica Arts Foundation. The company has received generous support from S. Mark Taper Foundation, Los Angeles County Arts Commission, City of Santa Monica and Santa Monica Arts Commission, and Jacob Best Foundation.
